A man in his 50s has died following a stabbing at a downtown Toronto Community Housing building.

Police said the incident occurred shortly before 4 a.m., on the 14th floor of a building at 200 Wellesley St., just east of Sherbourne Street.

Officers were called to the scene when someone called 911, reporting the man had been stabbed. When they arrived, they found a 55-year-old man suffering life-threatening injuries.

The man was rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds.

Police have provided few details, but said a 25-year-old man is in custody. Officers are not looking for further suspects.

In a statement, Toronto Community Housing said staff members are working with police as they investigate.

"We have provided them with security camera footage from the building," TCH said.
