Man fatally shot, second victim stabbed inside Toronto home: police

Toronto police say they are searching for two suspects after a 29-year-old man was shot and killed and a 58-year-old man sustained serious stab wounds inside a home in the city’s west end late Monday night.

Officers were called to the area of Silverthorn and Rockwell avenues, near St. Clair Avenue West and Old Weston Road, at around 11:45 p.m. for reports of a shooting and stabbing.

One man was found with gunshot wounds and subsequently pronounced deceased, police said.

He has been identified as Thomas Coish from Toronto. He is the city’s 85th homicide victim of the year.

A second man suffered stab wounds and was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition. He is now believed to be in stable condition.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday morning, Det. Sgt. Jeff Allington said police believe the shooting was a “targeted,” “isolated” incident.

“I understand how an incident like this can cause concern within the community,” Allington said.

He noted that police believe two suspects, described as white men wearing dark clothing, are involved and were last seen fleeing the area on foot.

Allington could not say how many shots were fired.

Allington said officers will be canvassing the neighbourhood throughout the day in an effort to locate witnesses and anyone with security camera footage.

Police said the victims both resided at the home and are related. It is unclear if either man was known to investigators prior to the incident on Monday night.
