A man believed to be in his 20s has died after being shot in the head near Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue West.

He had been conscious and breathing when rushed to hospital but died shortly before 6 p.m., police said Friday.

The incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. on a sidewalk in front of 1890 Sheppard Ave. W., which is at Yatescastle Drive east of Jane Street, Toronto Police told CTV News.

The area is very residential, comprised mainly of townhomes. Families had been outside enjoying the sunny summer afteroon.

"I turned around and I saw the body flipping," a visibly upset "Joanne" told CTV Toronto.

One shell casing was spotted at the scene, as was a pool of blood and a set of keys.

A black male suspect -- 6' tall, skinny build -- was originally believed to have left in a car, possibly a taxi.

"At this point in time, everything leads to the fact that he (the suspect) left on foot," Sgt. Angelo Costa told reporters.

Investigators believe they are only looking for one suspect at this time, he said.

Officers from 31 Division, assisted by a police dog unit, searched the area for evidence.

Dundas and Bathurst shooting

This is the second known shooting incident today.

An early-morning shooting near Bathurst Street and Dundas Street West sent four people to hospital with minor gunshot wounds.

The 911 call came into police at 4:51 a.m.

The exact street address given was 791 Dundas St. W., which is between Markham Street and Palmerston Avenue.

Police found one victim wounded in the leg and had him transported to hospital by ambulance.

Three others eventually made their way to hospital independently.

None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.

Const. Tony Vella told CTV Toronto that three of the victims are male and one is female.

None of the victims are facing charges in connection with this matter.

This case is still very much under investigation, Vella said.

"Were they targeted? We don't know yet. We're still looking into it," he said.
