A man convicted of assaulting and robbing a TTC operator last year has been sentenced to 15 months in jail.

The assault occurred on Dec. 17, 2014, the TTC said in a statement Friday. The man attempted to grab a transfer from a TTC bus driver in the area of Yonge Street and Queen's Quay, but was blocked by the operator's hand.

The TTC's statement said the man then punched the operator in the head and face.

"When the employee fell to the floor, the man then kicked him before fleeing with the operator's wallet and cell phone," the statement said.

A suspect was identified by Toronto police with the help of closed-circuit TV images obtained from a camera on the bus.

Adedotun Agunbiade, 28, was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm and robbery. He was convicted and sentenced to time served plus an additional six months for each offence, the TTC said.

He was also fined $400, and placed on probation for two years. During that time, he must stay off TTC property and avoid the victim.

The TTC warned that one TTC employee is assaulted every day, on average, and that its attorneys work to "ensure the stiffest penalties possible" for those convicted of assaults.
