An Air Canada flight heading from Calgary to London, England was forced to make an early landing in Toronto on Monday morning.

Flight AC850 left Calgary International Airport shortly before 7 p.m. local time Sunday, and was expected to land at London's Heathrow Airport at 10:50 a.m. on Monday.

As the Boeing 767 headed north towards Nunavut, an electrical smell was detected in the cabin, an Air Canada representative told CTV Toronto.

Media Relations Manager Angela Mah said that the flight was diverted to Toronto's Pearson International Airport as an "abundance of caution."

The flight's 201 passengers boarded another jet after landing Toronto at 5 a.m.

They are expected to arrive in London at 6:36 p.m. local time.

Three flights diverted Sunday

On Sunday, two Porter Airline flights out of Toronto were forced to make emergency landings and a third heading to Toronto had to land early.

At approximately 9 a.m., a flight heading for Washington, D.C., was forced to land at a rural Pennsylvania airport after taking off from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (BBTCA). Officials with the airline told CTV News that smoke was detected in the cockpit.

Just hours later, a flight heading from Thunder Bay, Ont., to BBTCA was forced to stop short at Toronto's Pearson International Airport.

The exact circumstances are unclear, but officials said there was an "indication received in the cockpit," and the pilot chose to land 20 kilometres from its scheduled destination as a precaution.

On Sunday evening, a third Porter plane had to land early after leaving BBTCA.

The Sudbury-bound flight left the downtown airport around 7:30 p.m., but was forced to land at Pearson when one of the jet's two engines shut down.
