Did you know that you can get a parking ticket cancelled in Toronto if it was issued within 10 minutes of your meter expiring?

Many Torontonians have no idea the grace period exists and one city councillor is trying to change that.

Coun. Josh Matlow says the city should do a better job of advertising the little-known policy and parking enforcement officers should stop issuing tickets within the 10-minute grace period.

Officers typically issue tickets five minutes after the meter has expired.

CTV News tested out the ticket cancellation policy Wednesday by parking an unmarked vehicle in a pay-and-display zone and allowing the meter to expire. A police officer issued a ticket before the 10-minute grace period expired and CTV News was able to get it cancelled at a city parking office.

There are four such offices in the city, including one at Metro Hall on John Street.
