TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs placed Jonas Gustavsson on injured reserve Thursday morning with a groin injury and recalled fellow goaltender Joey MacDonald from the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.

Gustavsson, nicknamed The Monster, is expected to miss at least one week.

The move comes after head coach Ron Wilson said Wednesday that Gustavsson would likely practise Thursday.

MacDonald, recalled on an emergency basis, earned the 3-2 win by making 32 saves in the Marlies' season opener against the Hamilton Bulldogs on Sunday.

Gustavsson appeared in two of the Maple Leafs' first three games, posting 3.09 goals-against average in 97:27 of action.

He lost his first career start 2-1 Tuesday against Ottawa, stopping 26 shots.
