Former Ontario Progressive Conservative leader John Tory says he is thinking about running for mayor of Toronto in the next municipal election.

In an interview Tuesday, Tory told CP24 commentator Stephen LeDrew he has been approached about a potential mayoral bid in 2014.

“You can’t really raise money or campaign until January first, so you know, but I’m being asked to think about it and I’m being honest enough to say I am,” Tory, now a Newstalk 1010 radio show host, told CP24.

This would be the second time Tory has taken a run at the mayor’s chair.

In 2003, Tory finished second to David Miller, who was re-elected in 2006 and served until the 2010 election. Miller chose not to run that year, and Toronto’s voters replaced him with Rob Ford.

Ford has repeatedly said he will run in the 2014 election.

So far, no one has publicly announced that they will challenge him, but there is plenty of speculation identifying Coun. Karen Stintz and MP Olivia Chow as possible candidates.
