A flash storm tore through Toronto Tuesday night, leaving some areas of the city under water.
The Lower Simcoe underpass was flooded, stranding at least one vehicle. A Toronto fire crew at the scene helped carry five passengers of a taxi cab to dry land.
Capt. Murray Manson told CP24 that his crew had just cleared another call when they saw the flooded underpass.
“This is very dirty water,” he said. “People have a tendency to underestimate the depth of the water. People are in a hurry and they need to be more careful.”
Elsewhere in the city, CP24 viewers reported flooding near St. Clair Avenue as well as Davenport Road. The TTC said there was minor flooding at Museum and Bathurst stations but that service on the subway line was not impacted.
There were reports of flooding as far north as Barrie but no injuries or major damage were reported. However, the storm spared some parts of the GTA, particularly west of the city where Brampton residents reported nothing more than a light drizzle.
Toronto Hydro said there were no reports of weather-related power outages.
The heavy downpour stopped about 30 minutes after it started but CP24 weather specialist Patricia Jaggernauth said more rain is expected throughout the evening. The rain is expected to clear overnight.
While the temperatures will hover around 20 C, the humidity will make it feel more like 26 C.
