A 21-year-old man has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the 2012 shootings on Danzig Street in Scarborough.
The gunman, who initiated the shooting at the block party, was found guilty of second-degree murder on Thursday.
Though none of the shots he fired killed anyone, it prompted a string of additional gunfire that killed 23-year-old Joshua Yasay of Ajax and 14-year-old Shyanne Charles of Toronto and injured 22 others.
The gunman, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act because he was 17 at the time of the shooting, was charged with two counts of second-degree murder, one count of attempted murder, one count of aggravated assault on a female and one count of reckless discharge. He has been found guilty on all counts and will be sentenced at a later date.
The incident has been deemed a retribution shooting between rival gangs. The accused opened fire on Nahom Tsegazab, an alleged gang member of the Galloway Boys, and resulted in the death of Yasay and Charles.
Back in 2014, a then 19-year-old Tsegazab pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter and six counts of aggravated assault. He was given a 14-year sentence. Shaquan Mesquito, who was also involved in the shooting and 19 at the time, pleaded guilty to counselling to commit murder, among other charges. Mesquito was sentenced to nine years in prison.
The trial took place over seven weeks with deliberations beginning on Monday.
This is the final court case related to the Danzig Street shooting.
