The family of a Scarborough woman killed in a drive-by shooting over the weekend says her death has left them “shattered.”
The family of Andrea White addressed the media Monday afternoon, two days after the mother of four was shot dead outside her Malvern home.
Tammy Wilkinson, a cousin of White, spoke of behalf of the family.
“Andrea was loved and will be missed by many,” Wilkinson said, “Her death has left a family and a community shattered.”
Michael Davani, 21, and Alwayne Bigby, 23, were charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death on Monday morning. Bigby is a local basketball star who played a few season in the NCAA.
After thanking the Toronto Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police for their hard work, Wilkinson addressed the two men accused.
“For every action, there is a reaction. Your actions have left Andrea’s children, ages 6, 9, 14 and 16, without their mother and her husband Bobby Lewis without his wife,” Wilkinson said. “Your actions have strengthened a community.”
Police also spoke at the news conference, calling the shooting a “targeted incident.” But officials also said they were not aware of the accused men having any links to gangs or drugs.
White, 33, was shot and killed in the garage of her Malvern home just before 11 p.m. on Saturday night.
Police say multiple shots were fired toward the house from the passenger side of a white Range Rover and White was fatally struck by one of the bullets. She was helped backed inside her home just after the shooting, but ultimately died from her wounds.
Wilkinson said a trust fund will be set up for White’s children, and funeral arrangements are still being made.
A candlelight vigil will be held in White’s honour at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at 22 Forest Creek Pathway.
