Rob Ford's brother said he thinks councillors who want proof that the Toronto mayor is in rehab are just trying to score political points.

Rumours surfaced a week after Rob Ford announced he was taking a leave of absence to get professional help that the mayor was not actually in rehab.

Speaking to CP24 on Wednesday, Coun. Doug Ford said that councillors who are asking for proof that Rob Ford is in a rehab facility are exhibiting "disgusting behaviour."

"All they care about is gaining political points, which is disgusting," Ford said.

"Everybody wanted Rob to go get the support he needed. He's done that and he's doing that and they obviously aren't happy enough."

Doug Ford reiterated the need for privacy, not just for the mayor but for the other patients, adding that if the mayor's location was known to the public, the rehab facility would be swarmed with journalists.

"Do you understand the effect it would have on families (of other patients)?" he said Thursday afternoon.

On Wednesday, Doug Ford said a doctor treating Rob Ford had called to ask him to tell the media to back off after an interview with Ford was published in the Toronto Sun.

According to a second article published Thursday, the mayor told the Sun he was no longer allowed to speak to the media.
