Chief Bill Blair is imminently expected to tell the Toronto Police Services Board whether he intends to seek a third, five-year term as head of Canada's largest municipal police force.
The deadline to inform board members is 11:59 p.m. Friday. The TPS board will then have 30 days to conduct a vote, should Blair say he wants to keep the job.
Blair, who has been Toronto's top cop for close to a decade, has previously said that he considers his future with the police force to be a private matter between himself and the civilian oversight board.
His contract officially expires April 25, 2015.
Under his watch, Blair, 60, has helped guide the Toronto police force through a number of turbulent times, including the G20 Summit, the Rob Ford probe after the so-called 'crack video,' and the Sammy Yatim shooting aboard a TTC streetcar last summer.
