A deadly crash Saturday morning left two people dead and three others injured on a county road near Barrie, Ont.

The accident occurred north of Shelburne at around 10:30 a.m. and that the crash victims died at the scene.

Police say that the crash unfolded after a Ford Ranger pickup truck heading south just missed a northbound vehicle but then smashed into a Toyota Highlander.

Inside the Ford, a 22-year-old male from Mississauga was later pronounced dead. He was the truck's sole occupant.

The Toyota had at least five occupants, and four were sent hospital in Orangeville. All four are listed in serious condition, but their injuries aren't considered life-threatening.

One other occupant was airlifted to St. Michael's Hospital. The deceased is a 60-year-old woman from Kitchener.

Ontario Provincial Police officers are probing the crash and attempting to reconstruct the accident scene.

It's believed that speed and bad weather both contributed to the crash.
