Toronto's city manager is expected to announce his retirement next week.
According to two published reports Saturday, Joe Pennachetti will announce his retirement during the final council meeting of the term on Tuesday, after holding the position since 2008.
He's expected to appoint Deputy City Manager John Livey as his interim replacement.
The position is currently the city's highest paid job. Pennachetti earned $363,234.14 in 2013, according to Ontario's Sunshine List.
The city manager advises council and administration, coordinates the work of city divisions, and evaluates effectiveness of city services.
"He is the second most powerful person at City Hall, after the mayor," Councillor Joe Mihevc told CTV Toronto on Saturday.
Mihevc said the city manager is directly responsible for 35,000 employees and another 20,000 indirectly, including TTC and Toronto Police staff.
