The music, dancing and glittering outfits of the Caribbean Carnival Grand Parade returned to Toronto on Saturday, attracting tourists from around the world.

Up to a million people were expected to gather for the event, which is part of the Scotiabank Toronto Caribbean Carnival.

“It’s a good party, it’s good for tourism, good for the economy, and people have a great time,” said Mayor Rob Ford.

“I welcome everyone to Toronto.”

About 16,000 dancers made their way along the parade route, some connected to extravagant, ornate floats -- handmade and human-powered.

Moving the floats can be a challenge.

“It’s really hard but I manage to do it somehow,” said one dancer along the route.
