Boy, 13, shoots self in leg, tells police he was victim of drive-by

A 13-year-old boy is in hospital after shooting himself in the leg.

Toronto police responded to a shooting call on Driftwood Avenue, in the San Romanoway and Finch Avenue West area, at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Police originally told CTV Toronto that the 13-year-old was injured in a drive-by shooting, but, after their investigation, they found that the boy injured himself.

The boy was taken to hospital with a single gunshot wound to the leg, according to Toronto police. 

Police say another boy, 17, told the 13-year-old to tell police that he was shot by someone else.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be identified because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is facing seven charges including: 

• Possession of a Restricted Weapon
• Careless Storage of a Firearm
• Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
• Possession of Restricted Weapon with Ammunition
• Attempt to Obstruct Justice
• Public Mischief
• Four counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance
