MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ONT. -- Police in Ontario have cancelled an Amber Alert after a seven-year-old was located safe.
Provincial police issued the alert just before 11 a.m., but it was cancelled roughly 30 minutes later.
Huron County OPP Const. Jamie Stanley explains, "Police did receive a call early this morning in relation to a child that had been abducted, actually a seven-year-old girl. Immediately we started to investigate that and we do believe there was the potential for danger involved so that did necessitate the we issue an Amber Alert."
The child had last been seen around 6 a.m. Wednesday morning on Bayfield Road east of Bayfield, Ont.
She was reportedly in a 2014 black Mercedes SUV with a 30-year-old woman. According to police the two were known to each other.
Police have confirmed the child was safely located around 11:20 a.m. in the Greater Toronto Area after they received a call about the child.
"I can't say, for instance, whether the individual called because of the Amber Alert, but we did get informed of the location of this individual that's now currently in custody. That individual was found down in the area of North York in Toronto and was taken into custody without incident," Stanley adds.
The area where the pair was found is a more than two-hour drive from where the girl was initially reported missing.
