A man has been charged in connection with the death of a Pickering woman after being arrested in Florida and deported to Canada.

The body of Carmela Knight, 39, was found in the burned garage of a home on Pebblestone Crescent after firefighters responded to a 911 call on Sept. 15, 2014.

A post-mortem exam revealed Knight had obvious signs of trauma on her body.

On Wednesday, Durham Regional Police announced a 36-year-old man had been charged in connection with the case.

Matthew Knight, formerly of Ajax, was arrested in Florida and deported to Canada Tuesday night, police said. He was taken into Durham Regional Police custody when he arrived at Toronto's Pearson International Airport.

Matthew Knight has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and accessory after the fact to murder.

The most recent suspect is the brother of David Knight, Carmela's husband. David Knight, 42, was arrested in February and charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and arson.

Graham Thomas Macdonald, 28, was also charged with the same offences in February.
