The defence lawyer in the Eaton Centre shooting trial says Christopher Husbands is not criminally responsible.

On Friday, the court heard from Dr. Julian Gojer, an expert in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). While on stand, Gojer went over Husbands' medical records from jail. They show he suffered from flashbacks from an earlier stabbing incident, nightmares and night sweats.

According to the doctor the 25-year-old's symptoms were consistent with PTSD.

Husbands, who has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and five counts of aggravated assault, previously told the court that the near fatal stabbing that happened months prior to the shooting had left him paranoid.

He also said that he doesn't remember exactly what happened seconds before he opened fire when he saw two men he believed were about to shoot him.

Husbands has admitted to firing a gun in the Eaton Centre, however, he denies he went to the busy mall with the intention of killing anyone.

The deadly shooting in June 2012 left two people dead and five people injured.

Goger explained on Friday to the jury that if an accused is found to be not criminally responsible, they can be discharged or remanded to a hospital.
