2 suspects in custody after carjacking in North York: police

Toronto police say two arrests have been made in connection with a carjacking investigation in North York.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 2 a.m. on Monday in the area of Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue East.

Police said that the victim and three friends were travelling in their vehicle when a black GMC tow truck began “aggressively following closely behind.”

The suspects, police said, began waving at the victim and the victim’s vehicle struck several curbs in an attempt to flee.

The victim then pulled over as a result of the damage to the vehicle and one suspect exited the GMC, ordering all of the occupants out of the vehicle.

“The suspect drove away in the victim’s vehicle with the GMC in tandem,” police said in a news release issued Tuesday.

“Officers from 32 Division quickly responded to the area and located the GMC and the victim’s vehicle. Officers surrounded the area and took the two suspects into custody.”

The suspects, identified by investigators as 30-year-old Yusif Ibrahimov, of Thornhill, and Seyed-Amin Maghami, a 27-year-old Richmond Hill, have each been charged with robbery and theft of a motor-vehicle, police said.
