An 11-year-old boy is dead and eight others are injured after an early morning rollover on Queen Elizabeth Way in Beamsville, Ont., about halfway between Hamilton and St. Catharines.

Sgt. Dave Woodford of Ontario Provincial Police said multiple people were ejected from a van when it rolled in the QEW’s Toronto-bound lanes near Bartlett Avenue at about 3 a.m.

The van was carrying nine occupants, including an infant, Woodford told CP24.

Eight passengers have been transported to hospital, two of whom have life-threatening injuries.

Investigators believe the van was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer before it rolled into a ditch on the right-side of the road, Woodford told CP24.

He said the tractor-trailer, however, failed to remain at the scene. The driver has not been located yet.

Police are looking for a white Volvo tractor-trailer, which Woodford says likely has damage to its front-end.
