A male is dead after being stabbed overnight in Wasaga Beach.

The incident took place on Main Street near a mini-putt course called "Skull Island" at around 3:30 a.m. this morning, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Monday.

Police did not immediately release details pertaining to the stabbing, the victim or any possible suspects.

The fatal stabbing is being investigated by a number of departments including the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit and the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.

Police have closed a section of Main Street as authorities conduct the investigation.

The incident comes just two days after an 18-year-old man from Caledon, Ont. was fatally stabbed near a pizza shop in Wasaga Beach. The victim -- identified by police as Franceso Molinaro -- was stabbed at around 10:35 p.m. on Saturday, May 21.

At this point, police said they do not believe the two crimes are related.

"Whether or not somewhere along the way they diverge, that's in the future... I can't predict the future. But as it stands now, we're not treating them as one and the same," Const. Mark Kinney told CTV Toronto.

In a release issued on Monday afternoon, Wasaga Beach Mayor Brian Smith expressed his sympathies to the families of two males recently killed in the town.

"Loss of life is always devastating; our condolences go out to both families. It is unfortunate that these incidents have happened in our community," Smith said in a statement.

He added that he would not comment any further on the two incidents until he is provided with more information by the OPP.

"It is my intention to meet with the OPP in the coming days to discuss the circumstances. Right now, the Town's objective is to determine what can be done to try to prevent these altercations from happening in the future."

"I have children of this age myself and I cannot begin to imagine what these families are going through right now," he told CTV Toronto nearby to the scene. "So our hearts and our prayers go out to the families of these two victims."

Investigators are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Huronia West OPP at (705) 429-3575 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
