BARRIE, Ont. -- Two men are facing charges after it's alleged a pair of speedsters raced down a Barrie, Ont., street -- and right by two police officers.

The force says the officers were on patrol Friday night when two "matching vehicles" allegedly racing each other blew right by them at more than 100 km/h.

They say one of the vehicles sped by an ambulance and that the officers had to pursue them for 1.5 kilometres before catching up.

Police say that nearby motorists and pedestrians stopped and applauded when the suspects' vehicles were finally brought to a halt.

Two 26-year-old men are each charged with racing a motor vehicle and have had their licenses suspended and vehicles impounded for a week.
