Rob Ford said he "absolutely" had a couple of beers the night he made an appearance at the Taste of the Danforth festival, after videos of Toronto's mayor at the event were posted on social media sites this weekend.
The videos show the mayor at the popular Greek food festival on Friday evening, taking photographs and chatting with festival-goers.
However, some have taken to social media to criticized Ford’s behaviour at the event on Friday evening.
Ford addressed the latest controversy to hit the mayor's office during his weekly radio show on Sunday.
"Did I have a couple of beers? Absolutely I had a couple of beers. But you know what, I had a good time, I think things are getting blown out of proportion," he said.
Ford then apologized if he offended anyone with his behaviour.
"I don't believe I did offend anyone," he said. "I had a good time and let my hair down a bit."
Coun. Doug Ford came to the mayor's defence during the radio show on Newstalk 1010, noting that he arrived to the festival shortly after his brother did.
"You seemed alright," Doug Ford said. "Maybe you had one or two beers. But that's the thing, Rob's the average guy."
Doug Ford noted that there were "line-ups" of people waiting to take a picture with the mayor.
"Everyone was having a good time," he said.
It’s not the first time the mayor has been called out for appearing to be inebriated in public.
In 2006, when Rob Ford was an Etobicoke councillor, he apologized after verbally attacking spectators at a hockey game.
Ford initially denied the incident, but later admitted he had too much to drink.
