Three students in the Peel Region will graduate high school with 100 per cent averages. Janet Tang, who attends Turner Fenton Secondary School, said she was speechless when she found out.
“I worked hard for all these six years and it’s paid off,” she told CTV Toronto. She said she was focused and had good study habits.
“May aim is not to memorize,” she said, “but to understand.”
Tang is not only an academically-inclined student. She also played flag football, rugby and was on the school and provincial wrestling teams.
Another student at the same school, Jessie Dong, also received an 100 per cent average. She is currently in Taiwan teaching English.
For the past five years, Turner Fenton Secondary School has had at least one student reach the 100 per cent average.
Roland Chou, from Mayfield Secondary School, is another Peel Region student with a perfect average. He said he continued to pursue his passion for music as well as his studies.
He recently earned a diploma for piano performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music.
“The most important thing is strong work ethic,” he said, “learning how to prioritize.”
The three students had the highest averages within the Peel District School Board for the 2015 to 2016 academic year, according to a news release from the Board. They are among 4,738 students graduating grade 12 with an 80 per cent or higher in their top six courses that year.
Chou has the highest average in Caledon and will attend McMaster University for a bachelor of health sciences in the fall. Dong will be going to the University of Cambridge to study human, social and political sciences while Tang will attend McGill University for biomedical sciences.
