SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. -- Ontario's Special Investigations Unit says it is probing an incident in Sault Ste. Marie that left a man injured when his vehicle crashed after failing to stop for police.

The police watchdog agency says officers were on patrol at about 3:20 a.m. Tuesday when they tried to investigate a vehicle.

The SIU says the vehicle did not stop and that the driver lost control (in the area of Second Line East and Black Road) and went into a ditch.

The 26-year-old driver was arrested and taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The SIU is an arm's-length agency that investigates incidents involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
