A school safety monitor has been charged after a teen reported being sexually assaulted at a Toronto high school.
Police said the assault occurred at Weston Collegiate Institute, a high school in the area of Jane Street and Lawrence Avenue, on Friday, Jan. 8.
A man led a 17-year-old girl to a remote area of the school and sexually assaulted her, police said in a statement Tuesday.
As a result of an investigation, 42-year-old Clinton Russell was arrested. Russell has been charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation.
Police said the suspect is employed as a school-based safety monitor at Weston. Safety monitors spend their shifts walking through the school building and grounds, monitoring the area for intruders or risky activities.
