AURORA, Ont. - Police allege a 58-year-old man defrauded the Town of Richmond Hill, Ont., of more than $100,000 from an arena.

York Regional police say the began investigating in June after receiving a tip.

They allege that over a five-year period, an ice facilities booking clerk had been playing with the books and keeping payments rather than giving them to the municipality.

Police say the alleged fraud was discovered after conducting an internal audit that led to the termination of the employee.

Perry Silverman, of Richmond Hill, has been charged with fraud over $5,000 and breach of trust by public official.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Newmarket, Ont., on Dec. 31.
