TORONTO - Police are looking for witnesses as they try to piece together what led to a woman being struck by a car in Mississauga last night.

They say the 55-year-old victim was crossing the street when she was struck by a car with an Alberta licence plate driven by a 23-year-old Mississauga man.

She was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries but died a short time later.

Peel police blocked off the area for several hours while the major collisions bureau investigated.

They have not yet determined if charges will be laid.

The victim's name isn't being released until next of kin are notified.
