A Sunwing Boeing 737 made a safe emergency landing at Pearson Airport early Friday evening after reporting mechanical problems before landing.

The plane reported fuel problems on its approach.

Emergency vehicles greeted the plane on the tarmac.

There were 196 people on board the flight from the Dominican Republic.

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority said there was no fire on the plane. Pictures of the plane seemed to show a bright orange spot near the engine, but officials said it was likely a bright light or reflection.

Officials said they would not have allowed a plane to go to a terminal if there was a fire.

Andrew Dawson, president of Sunwing Tour Operations, said the bright light spotted by cameras was probably a reflection of the landing light, which grows brighter as the plane descends.

No one was injured on the incident.

The plane will be heading to Montreal after it is cleared to fly.
