More than 100,000 people are expected to pass through the Canada’s largest airport today as many escape the city for the holidays.

Shabeen Hanifa, a spokesperson for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, reminded travellers to be prepared for the higher volume of traffic today. It is expected to be one of the busiest travel days of the year.

She said to check flight times online before arriving at the airport.

“Track your flight. There are lots of things going on… so it is always good to check in with us, make sure your flight is going when you think it is going,” she said while speaking to CP24 on Tuesday morning.

Just before 12:45 p.m., there were seven delays listed on the airport’s departures page. Other than those setbacks, people said they were happy to be getting away from the snow.

One family was leaving the city to go to the Dominican Republic with friends.

“First time ever going away for Christmas, yeah,” one woman told CTV News Toronto. She said she was most looking forward to the “sun, sand and drinks.”

And for those travelers who want to be extra prepared, Hanifa said they can actually reserve parking at the airport ahead of time online.

She also warned people not to bring wrapped gifts in their carry-on luggage, especially if they want to get through security quickly.

“If you come with a wrapped gift make sure it goes in your checked luggage as opposed to your carry-on because they actually do need to unwrap it if it goes in the carry-on,” Hanifa told CTV News Toronto at the airport. “If you listen to us today, you’ll be prepared and we’ll do the hard work for you because (there’s) a free gift-wrapping just past security.”
