BARRIE, Ont. -- A Toronto-area man sought by police on allegations he nearly struck an officer while driving away from a ride check this summer has been brought back to the province to face charges.

Ontario provincial police say officers were talking to a driver at a spot check in Barrie on July 4 when the man sped away, almost striking an officer.

They say officers chased him for a bit but then stopped for safety reasons.

Police say the man's vehicle was later found in a ditch but the suspect was nowhere to be found.

A Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued and the man was eventually tracked down in Alberta and brought back to Ontario.

Aklaesso Agba, 26, of Mississauga, faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault on a police officer, flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
