Police have charged a 23-year-old man in connection to a Mississauga police chase that ended in a violent collision Wednesday night.

CTV viewer Miroslaw Gaweda was watching a basketball game with friends in his condo when he said he heard sirens.

He took out his phone and started filming the pursuit from his balcony around 8:30 p.m.

In the video, a black pickup truck can be seen driving along Burnhamthorpe Road W. toward Hurontario Street with police cruisers not far behind. During the chase, the police cruiser and a civilian vehicle are struck.

The pickup truck continued on but smashed into a pole just before reaching the intersection

The driver jumped out of the vehicle and tried to escape, but he was surrounded by Peel region police officers. He was taken into custody along with a second person, believed to be passenger in the truck.

Police said the chase started when they noticed the driver was being erratic and failed to stop when they turned on their sirens.

A suspect identified as Mississauga resident Daniel Rahimi, 23, was charged with flight from police, impaired driving, excess blood alcohol and escape lawful custody.

He appeared in court for a bail hearing Thursday morning.
