Toronto hockey and basketball fans can expect longer lines at the Air Canada Centre when the venue installs metal detectors next season.
The metal detectors that caused long lines at the Rogers Centre ahead of the Blue Jays home opener Monday night, will be installed at the ACC ahead of the 2015-16 hockey season.
Those visiting the ACC can expect a similar system to that at the ballpark, where 55 metal detectors were installed ahead of the 2015 season. The detectors were installed at the Rogers Centre as part of a sweeping change to all facilities hosting major league baseball games.
The scanners are similar to those found in airports, but officials told CTV Toronto they were calibrated to be less sensitive, so spectators only have to remove large or heavy metal items.
Loose change, belts and watches do not trigger the alarms.
