TORONTO -- Toronto police says a Mississauga man is facing 15 charges in connection with a human trafficking investigation.

Police say officers from the Human Trafficking Enforcement Team began an investigation Thursday after allegations were made that a 21-year-old woman was being forced into the sex trade.

It's alleged that the woman was assaulted and taken to various strip clubs in the Greater Toronto Area, where she was forced to work as an exotic dancer.

Police say officers intervened when an attempt was made to take money from the victim.

Derek Bissue, 22, faces charges including trafficking in persons, uttering threats of death and bodily harm, two counts of overcoming resistance by choking, robbery, weapons charges and three counts of theft under $5,000.

Police say they believe there may be more victims and are urging anyone with information to contact investigators.
