MARKHAM, Ont. - Police say the bodies of two women have been found north of Toronto after an investigation that was launched when a man walked into a police station on Christmas Eve.

York region police say a man came to their Newmarket district headquarters Tuesday morning to report an incident.

Const. Laura Nicolle says the investigation then led officers to Markham, where the women's bodies were separately discovered in a parking lot and apartment.

Nicolle would say only that the bodies were found "somewhere in the vicinity of each other."

The victims' names have not been released and they are due to undergo autopsies Thursday.

Forty-seven-year-old David Howe, of Penetanguishene, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
