HAMILTON, Ont. -- A lockout has been averted for 20 full- and part-time workers at the Ontario March of Dimes in Hamilton.

The Ontario Public Service Employees Union Local 262 says talks involving a mediator resulted in a tentative contract deal.

The union says the agreement came as management was prepared to lock out the workers at 12:01 a.m. Thursday.

Details of the agreement have not been released pending a ratification vote set for Aug. 20.

The union is recommending that it be accepted by the employees, who provide assisted living to disabled people in the person's home.

The previous contract expired June 30, 2011.
