A Brampton, Ont. man has been charged with manslaughter after his toddler died of malnutrition and dehydration earlier this year, CTV News has learned.
Police found the body of 21-month-old Victoria O'Dea in her basement apartment on Pappain Crescent, on the evening of April 20. She was unconscious and not breathing at the time.
The toddler was rushed to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The girl's father, 42-year-old Frank Brian O'Dea, was arrested in April and charged with criminal negligence, for allegedly failing to provide proper medical care for his daughter Victoria.
Months later, a source told CTV Toronto's Tamara Cherry that a report from the Centre of Forensic Sciences showed that the girl died of dehydration and malnutrition.
The man's charges have now been upgraded to manslaughter. He has also been charged with failing to provide the necessities of life.
O'Dea appeared in court Thursday, speaking only to whisper with counsel. He is expected to reappear on Dec. 21.
