A man in his mid-30s has been taken to hospital with burns to his face and hands after an explosion in Toronto's Liberty Village Monday evening.

It happened inside a sixth-floor condominium unit on East Liberty Street, just before 6:30 p.m. Toronto Fire Services say the impact from the blast blew out the elevator doors of the building. A man has been taken to hospital with minor burns.

Police are investigating whether the explosion was the result of foul play. They previously said the damage to the condo was a result of a "gas explosion."

Toronto Fire Services say the blast, however, is still under investigation. The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office has been called in to investigate the incident.
