A group of Ontario children escaped without injury after a school bus plunged off a rural road on Tuesday morning.

Ontario Provincial Police said that the Line 4 in the Oro-Medonte Township, north of Barrie, was closed after a school bus accident shortly before 9 a.m.

The bus left the road north of Bass Lake Side Road and entered the ditch, tipping precariously and threatening for some time to roll onto its side with children on board.

There were 39 children on board at the time of the incident, police confirmed.

OPP Const. George Sylvestri said fire crews and a heavy tow truck were used to stabilize the bus as children were evacuated.

The OPP said that no children were injured in the crash, but paramedics were called to the scene to provide any necessary care.

The students were loaded onto anther bus and taken to Barrie's W.R. Best Memorial Elementary School

Beverley Stanutz, 40, of Barrie, has been charged with careless driving.
