A 42-year-old male driver is dead after he was ejected from his vehicle in a single-vehicle accident in Etobicoke early Friday morning.

The Brown’s Line southbound ramp was temporarily closed at Lakeshore Boulevard, but the area reopened at approximately 10 a.m.

The accident was first reported around 5:20 a.m. Police say the driver’s Jeep struck a guardrail at the top of the ramp and rolled at least once, striking the rail at several points. The force of the collision sheared off the driver’s door and rear passenger doors, police said.

Police say the victim was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the Jeep and pinned under the vehicle’s front grill. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s identity has not been released, but police said he was 42 years old. The cause of the crash has not been determined.

“There doesn’t appear to be any attempt at braking on the way in, so it looks like that car came in at a fairly high rate of speed and didn’t attempt to stop prior to the collision," Const. Clint Stibbe told reporters.

He added that road conditions may have played a role.

"It was damp this morning, somewhat icy as well on the cars," he said.

Police dogs were brought to the scene to help determine whether a passenger may have been in the Jeep and ejected during the crash, but officers later said that the driver was the only person involved in the crash.

The Coroner’s Office has been notified.
