A 31-year-old woman is dead and a 25-year-old man was rushed to hospital in critical condition following an early Tuesday morning shooting in downtown Toronto.

The family confirmed to CTV Toronto the female victim is Jelena Loncar.

It happened near Wellington Street and Spadina Avenue around 3 a.m.

The female victim was without vital signs when paramedics arrived after suffering a single gunshot wound to her chest. She was pronounced dead at hospital. The man suffered about half a dozen gunshots to his torso but managed to stumble about 150 metres to a gas station for help.

Police believe the man was the intended target of the shooting. He is known to police.

Police are investigating, but there is no word of any arrests. There were about 100 patrons at the night club at the time of the shooting. Police are checking surveillance video and asking anyone with information to contact them.
