Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly is going to Taiwan next week in his first international trip representing Toronto since city council gave him Mayor Rob Ford's executive powers on November 18.

Kelly, along with Councillors Michelle Berardinetti, Pam McConnell and Giorgio Mammoliti, will be in Taipei City from Monday until next Saturday.

Isaac Ransom, Kelly's director of communications, said the trip won’t cost Toronto taxpayers.

The trip is being paid for by the Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association.

Ransom said the purpose of the trip is to strengthen trade and cultural relationships and develop government contacts between the two cities.
