Police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in an overnight crash in Oshawa.

The crash occurred on Simcoe Street, three blocks north of Rossland Road, at approximately 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police said the car was travelling north on Simcoe, when the driver lost control. The vehicle struck a tree, then crashed into a building.

Car parts were left scattered across the road, sidewalk and lawn, witnesses said.

Three of the four occupants in the car were taken to a local hospital, then transferred to a Toronto hospital with serious injuries, police said.

It is not known what caused the crash, but police said that alcohol appeared to be a factor.
