A three-year-old child found at the bottom of a swimming pool in Newcastle last night is now recovering in hospital.

Durham Region Police say a young boy was discovered at the bottom of a pool at a home yesterday while a number of people were attending a party at the time.

Police say a man jumped into the water and brought the child up to the pool deck, where CPR was administered.

Police are urging parents and caregivers to be extra cautious when children are around water and suggest all kids wear flotation devices when they're near swimming pools.
