A pair of pyjamas is all an anguished mother has left of her daughter's following a deadly house fire that also left her husband dead.

"I'll put it here for now, and I'll pick it up later. I have to take it with me," a sobbing Jackie McGregor said as she added her daughter Britney's pyjamas to a memorial of teddy bears, flowers and cards outside the Kemp Square home where the girl died.

"Now I'm going to go buy her some clothes for her funeral," she said, supported by friends.

On Sunday afternoon, Ken Einboden carried out his infant daughter Kendra from the home before going back in to try and rescue Britney. He didn't come out.

"And his friend said he heard him twice call her, and he didn't hear nothing else," McGregor said.

Firefighters found the father and daughter on the second floor. Ken died of his injuries on Sunday. Britney died about noon on Monday.

"I want them back, but I know I can't have that -- you know?" said McGregor. "I asked Britney to be with me, to help me, but she went with her dad."

The family lost everything in the fire -- a catastrophe that comes when they were already facing hard times.

Britney's grandmother died six months ago, about the same time that Ken lost his job. McGregor's only source of income at the moment are maternity leave benefits.

The family can hardly pay for the funerals, which are scheduled for Friday.

A trust fund has been set up for the family. Donations can be made to the RBC branch at Jane Street and Lawrence Avenue, chequing account number 5052394.
