Public elementary school students in Ontario may not be bringing home their reports cards at the end of the term as the teachers' work-to-rule campaign continues.
Phase 2 of the job action began on Monday. Teachers have not been performing a number of duties, including the preparation or completion of Grade 8 to Grade 9 transition reports.
The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario announced the work-to-rule action in April after months without collective agreements.
The union represents more than 76,000 teachers, occasional teachers and education professionals in Ontario. It says the withdrawal of services will continue until a deal has been reached with the school boards.
The first phase of the job action began last month, when teachers stopped performing administrative duties such as writing comments on report cards.
Teachers will still be handing out final grades before the school year wraps up for the summer. Those grades, however, won't be entered in a report card system as that is another duty teachers are not performing.
School boards across Ontario are now exploring options to have grades entered on report cards. One option would be to hire people to enter the data.
