Toronto police have released surveillance video and photos in a Kensington Market arson case, hoping the public will identify the suspect.

The video and images were captured by a surveillance camera at a convenience store in the area on Nov. 30.

The man in the video is suspected of being involved in two arson incidents in the Kensington area, one on Augusta Avenue and another on Oxford Street.

Police said a man matching the suspect's description was seen entering a garage at 214 Augusta Ave. on Monday, Nov. 24, at approximately 10 p.m. The man allegedly set fire to an item or items in the garage then fled the scene.

The following Monday, a fire was started on a deck of a home on Oxford Street at approximately 1 a.m.

More than 100 firefighters and 20 trucks were called to the neighbourhood when the fire spread to nearby homes. Firefighters previously said the estimated damage to the homes, located at 10, 12, 14 and 16 Oxford St. is approximately $1 million.

No residents were injured in either fire, but five cats died in the fire on Oxford.

Toronto Police hope that someone will be able to identify the man shown in the security camera footage. Anyone with more information is asked to call police at 416-808-1400, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477 (TIPS).
