WATERLOO, Ont. -- A southern Ontario police force says one of its long-time officers is facing an impaired driving charge after an alleged off-duty incident.

Waterloo Regional Police say the incident happened on Dec. 23 when a 17-year veteran of the force was pulled over by provincial police in Paris, Ont.

They say the OPP were responding to reports of a car being driven erratically.

Waterloo Police say Sgt. Jason Bonikowsky now faces a charge of driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit.

The force says its professional standards unit has opened a review of the case.

Bonikowsky is set to appear in court next month.
